General Description:
The Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) team is an aligned portfolio strategy, project management and systems team that is a strategic driver of project and portfolio strategy, delivery, decision-making and risk/value management.
The role holder will drive the delivery of R&D portfolio strategy, reports, analyses, assessments and insights in the context of the early and late stage portfolios. The analyses and insights will help enable delivery of business objectives for the R&D portfolio as a key driver of planning and decision-making by executive leadership & governance. The position will engage with project teams in terms of decision making, best practices and the path to key investment decisions by governance.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Portfolio Strategy & Reviews. Lead portfolio strategy, reviews and prioritization with cross-functional partners and deliver twice a year to executive management & governance.
- Portfolio Management and Reporting. Maintain a detailed understanding of the shape and drivers of the R&D portfolio through pro-active involvement with key customers and stakeholders including: Project Teams, R&D leadership and Governance, Finance, Forecasting & Competitive Intelligence. Track short and long term objectives for project and portfolio delivery.
- Governance. Work directly with project teams to ensure they are ready for all governance interactions. Assist the project teams in preparation for governance to ensure robust decision-making for projects and in alignment with the overall portfolio. Accountable for updating and maintaining all governance guidance documents and ensuring changes are communicated to project teams.
- Portfolio Planning. Ensure all governance decisions have portfolio context to ensure robust and optimal decision making. Maintain forward view of late stage governance agenda, upcoming data readouts for late stage programs as well as forward view of all investment decisions – time, cost & value.
- Performance Management. Support governance with project and portfolio management information for a variety of reports including monthly reporting, late stage portfolio progress as well as outcomes of investment decisions at governance, etc. In addition to measuring progress against objectives, as the year progresses identify issues and risks to project and portfolio delivery.
- Industry Benchmarks/Competitive Intelligence. Be knowledgeable regarding external benchmarks and competitor information that helps to contextualize and assess R&D project & portfolio decisions.
Minimum Requirements – Education and Experience:
Executive Director Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree with 14 + years’ experience in drug development or commercial within academia, consulting, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
- Masters Degree & Above with 10 + years’ experience in drug development or commercial within academia, consulting, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
- 5+ years in leadership roles as leader in a multicultural & international (global) portfolio environment a plus
Senior Director Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree with 12 + years’ experience in drug development or commercial within academia, consulting, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
- Masters Degree & Above with 8 + years’ experience in drug development or commercial within academia, consulting, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
- 5+ years in leadership roles as leader in a multicultural & international (global) portfolio environment a plus
Other Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of drug development and or drug commercialization and familiarity with pharmaceutical portfolio strategy development
- Proved ability of strategic thinking and to make sound judgement and decisions
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain efficient connection with Sr. leadership team and global functions. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive work relationships to effectively interface at all levels across the organization
- Demonstrated strong leadership, influence, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Proved ability to execute and perform autonomously in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership and ability to coach junior members
- Fluent in written and verbal English
